Overdue Items
A FIRST NOTICE will be mailed when the item is 14 days overdue.
A SECOND NOTICE will be mailed when the item is 4 weeks overdue.
After 2 months, a statement will be sent certified mail, requesting that the item be returned or the replacement cost be paid.
Grace Periods
There is a 4-day grace period on all library materials EXCEPT DVDs/Videos, Inerlibrary loans, and overnight loans which have no grace period.
If an item is returned within 4 days of its due date, there will be no fine. However, if the item is over the 4-day grace period (5 or more days overdue), the fine will be calculated from the original due date. The grace period expires the 5th day. Fines will be charged for every day the item is overdue, including days the library is closed.
Book Return Drop Box
We want to do everything we can to avoid overdue fines. For that reason, the library has two drop boxes to return materials. The book return is located in the brick wall at the top of the ramp on the left. This return can be used at all times for books and magazines only. Oversized materials must be returned when the library is open.
AV Return Drop Box
The AV return is located in the glass window to the left of the front window.
VHS tapes need to be returned directly to the Powers Memorial Library. Books, DVDs, and other material can be returned to any library in SHARE.
MOVIES AND OTHER AUDIOVISUAL ITEMS CAN ONLY BE RETURNED IN THE AV DROP BOX WHEN THE LIBRARY IS CLOSED.
The AV return is intended for Videos, DVDs, Audiobooks, CDs, and other audiovisual items only.
Fees will be charged for returning audiovisual materials in the book drop.
A fine will also be charged for returning materials in the AV drop box during the time the library is open.
The AV drop box cannot be properly supervised during open hours and items left in it are susceptible to theft.

Renewals & Reserves
All items except Inter-library Loans and overnight items can be renewed. Reserves can be made for all items. Renewals and reserves can be made online, in person or by phone. You will need to give your name and the items that you want renewed or reserved. A maximum of one renewal, on any one item is permitted as long as that item is not on hold for another patron. Renewals are the same loan period as an original checkout. When an item comes in that has been reserved, the patron will be called and it will be held for seven days from the date of receipt.
What is S.H.A.R.E.?
S.H.A.R.E (Shared Holding and Resource Exchange) is a consortium that shares books and other library material between 44 libraries in five counties: Jefferson, Dodge, Washington, Walworth, and Racine. When you look at our catalog of books on the computer, you will find books from all of these libraries. If you find something you might like to check out from one of the 44 libraries, you can place a hold on it. We have a van that delivers books, movies, and magazines from other libraries every day but Saturday. The website for S.H.A.R.E. is www.sharelibraries.info.
